Overview:
Faith & Fate is an all inclusive history of the Jewish people in the 20th Century. It tells the story of Ashkenazim and Sephardim all over the world, and covers the different philosophies of the various streams of Judaism.
Faith & Fate is unique in that it approaches 20th century Jewish history from a 4,000 year-old overview and perspective.
To quote Berel Wein, “Our history is the one thing that all Jews have in common and that binds us together. History is our rearview mirror… knowing where we come from will help us understand where we are going”.
Objectives and Goals:
To help students develop a mastery of the following:
- The impact that world history has had, and continues to have, on the Jewish people.
- The impact that the Jews have had, and continue to have, on world history.
- Jewish history can, and should be studied from various perspectives and in various contexts, in order to be properly understood.
- Viewing Jewish history through the eyes of the participants by studying primary documents such as literature, diaries, newspapers, essays, photographs, maps and the like.
- Critical analysis of historical evidence in order to understand the importance of circum stances and contexts of Jewish historical events.
- The connections made through their studies that link students with events of the past to those of the present day.
- The exploration of their Jewish identity through Jewish history.
